Hi all,

I know its a silly idea to literally translate from english to spanish most of the time, but I have noticed that bienvenido seems to be the literal translation from welcome (well come) (or came p.t.), is this a valid observation, if so what is the history of "welcome" to have another language copy the the entire literal meaning of the two psuedo words within the word, or............ have I had too many glasses of wine and there is actually no link?

gracias por escucharme,
craig.

Writer:Miguel de Cervantes
Book: Don Quijote de la Mancha, II part
Chapter: capítulo LXI
Year: aprox 1612 d.C.

“... Bien venido sea, digo, el valeroso don Quijote de la Mancha: no el falso, no el ficticio, no el apócrifo que
en falsas historias estos días nos han mostrado, sino el verdadero, el legal y el fiel que nos describió Cide Hamete
Benengeli, flor de los historiadores.
ben venido sea (él) -> Sea usted bien venido (you come here to us well) -> sea bienvenido -> bienvenido

Now's your turn, look for an earlier one ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
