Llevar por delante
It appears to have a negative meaning in a newspaper article I read. Could it mean to fire or lay off as well as take ahead?

"Llevar por delante" es una locución que significa "avasallar", "arrasar" o "atropellar". Puede emplearse para, por ejemplo, informar de que durante un robo los ladrones lograron obtener el botín de una forma rápida y violenta.
