Hi.

What do you mean you are nine in Spanish?

I don't know any Spanish yet.

Rusty December 19, 2016 06:53 PM

There are several errors in what efendi wrote, because he is also new to Spanish.
You found one of the mistakes. He didn't mean to write 'nueve' (nine). He meant 'nuevo' (new).

In his thread title, he should have written 'Hola' (hi) instead of 'Ola' (wave).

Here is what he meant to write.

It's more than what I know. Hola sounds like it shouldn't have an H in it. It sounds like Ola.

Rusty December 22, 2016 09:36 PM

The 'h' is always silent (when it isn't the double consonant 'ch'). The silent 'h' must be written, however. English has many more silent letters than Spanish, yet we painstakingly write them. ;)

¡Ay! = groan
¿Qué hay? = 'What's there', also, 'What's up?'
The 'h' of "hay" is mute. It sounds like "ay" but you must write it. Sino pierde el sentido la frase.
