José Pizarro

I have been watching Spanish Chef José Pizarro. He was cooking a meal but the title is in Spanish. I tried to do on-line translation but failed.

Flamenquín de cerdo Ibérico with romesco sauce, calamari and aioli

Yes I saw that, and wondered why he kept saying "Calamari".

I expect "Flamenquín" probably means "Flamenco style" - although Pizarro himself is actually extremeño, same as my wife's family.

The title of the dish, as you wrote it, consists of Spanish, Catalan and English.

Flamenquín
(and from his book)

de = (made) of

cerdo Ibérico = Iberian pig

with romesco sauce (a sauce that originated in Tarragona, Cataluña)

calamari = squid (from Spanish calamar)

and aioli (a sauce that originated in Cataluña, meaning garlic and oil)

My question was why would an extremeño repeatedly pronounce it as calamari?

Singular = calamar
Plural = calamares
Català = calamars

Understood. He was using the English loan word.

For a moment I though it was Italian... but English borrowed that from them... ;-)
