Hacer - Did? Used to? Help!

I have come across some samples in my Spanish lessons that confuse me. Can someone help explain the ¨hace¨ for me?

Nos casamos hace veinte años.
Llevamos casados veinte años.
Hace cinco años que viven en Australia.
Hace quince años que estudio música.
Hace diez años que juega al golf.

¡Gracias!

Render 'hace' as 'it marks' in most of these cases and it will make more sense. Also, check out this explanation:
http://www.studyspanish.com/lessons/timehacer.htm

'Nos casamos hace veinte años' can be rearranged to 'Hace veinte años que nos casamos'. (It marks twenty years that we got married.) We got married twenty years ago.

The grammar used in the second sentence is another animal.
