Television stand

Television stands today are pieces of furniture. Mine holds the satellite receiver, VCR and DVD player. They are behind glass doors. On the sides of it are cabinets for DVDs. etc. I can't find anything in my American Heritage Spanish dictionary that would describe this piece of furniture. ¡Ayudame, por favor!

Actually, I don't use a simple noun for meaning what you say, as well as you don't. For television stand I would say mueble de la televisión. I'm from Spain. I don't know if it's got a name in other places.

I agree with Alfonso.
You'll also find mueble para televisión, mueble para tv (TV), mueble TV, mueble de tv, mueble del televisor, mueble televisor, and mueble universal. The last one was used to describe an entertainment center (furniture that accomodates the TV, DVD players, other electronics and your movies), but I've also seen unidad de entretenimiento used to describe that.

Gracias, Alfonso.

Well, if you can get all those things on it, then it's called an Entertainment Center in English............ at the risk of being corrected.... I have heard it being referred to (in American Spanish) as "El Centro/Mueble de Entretenimiento, which is a literal translation but understandable by many.

Yeah, I didn't like unidad, either, but that is what I found. Unidad is usually a device or a unit.

I'm also with Alfonso, "mueble de la televisón"
"Unidad de entretenimiento" sounds me technologic, like a computer ("XP media experience") or a Home cinema, more complex than simple furniture.
saludos :D
