Accents in names
 

This is kinda weird, but it is a bugging question to me that I need answered. The two names Mario and Darío. I can't figure out why Mario doesn't have an accent mark and Darío does. There's probably no explanation, but I thought I'd try becuase the question bugs me.

As a second question, in legal terms, if a name has an accent on a letter, for it to be the "correct" legal name, would it have to have the accent mark? Or would the unaccented version also be legally valid as the same name? Because in Spanish I don't think the accented and unaccented versions of the vowels are considered to be separate letters. Anyway any input on this would be helpful.

It's all about how it would be pronounced.

Mario and Darío

Accent means that you accent it :D ... usually.

Like celador says, it's how it would be pronounced.
Ma-rio. Da-rí-o
For example you have María (Ma-rí-a) and not Ma-ria

Legally, I'm not sure. I suppose the unaccented version is valid (they are not considered to be separate letters), but usually you must know how to write your own name :D :D
