"I went to school by bus and train" = "Me fue para la escuela con autobus y tren" ?
Hey everyone. I'm new here and would really appreciate some help.
If I want to translate "I went to school by bus and train" into spanish would it be: "Me fue para la escuela con autobus y tren" ? |
The verb to use for going somewhere is 'ir'.
It looks like you tried to use 'irse', but had the wrong conjugation for a first-person subject. This is the wrong verb to use in this context. If you were talking about leaving for school, you could then use 'irse'. The first-person past tense (preterit) conjugation of 'ir' is 'fui'. The verb 'ir' is always followed by the preposition 'a'. The phrase 'by bus', in this case, is 'en autobús'. Your sentence doesn't sound like you used both forms of transportation at the same time, but perhaps you first rode the bus and then the train. At any rate, unless you're describing something you habitually did in the past, what I've communicated above is correct. If, on the other hand, you are describing something habitual, you need to use the other past tense - the imperfect. The first-person past imperfect conjugation of 'ir' is 'iba'. So, choose what kind of past action you need to get your meaning across and write out the new sentence. We'll let you know if you got it right. |
Thank you for the help! :) Sorry for the late reply on my part, I had to work on my other classes for a while.
So If I understand it correct, is this right?: " Me fui a para la escuela con en autobús y tren. " |
Nope. Don't use 'me fui'. That's a conjugation of 'irse', which means 'to leave'. Just write 'fui', which means 'I went'.
The verb 'fui' (from the infinitive 'ir') is followed by the preposition 'a'. So where you put 'a para', drop the second preposition. Where you wrote 'con en', you only need 'en'. |
Thanks for the quick response! So is this correct?:
" Fui a la escuela en autobús y tren." Or maby it should be: " Fui a la escuela para autobús y tren." ? Becouse "para" can mean " by" , while "en" is more "on,in,under" right? No wait I changed my mind again xD sorry, it's: " Fui a la escuela por autobús y tren." right? |
