Another mistake?
My book says that "marry" is not followed by a preposition, but "get marry" is (to).
However, in a sentence I've read: "if I was married to Johnathan", while I think that the correct sentence would be: "if I was married Johnathan". I guess this is a mistake (mistakes puzzle me  ). Would you mind to confirm it? Thanks. :) |

You could say "if J and I were married" I am going to marry Mary :good: I am getting married to Mary :good: Mary and I are going to be married :good: Mary and I are getting married :good: I am married to Mary :good: Mary is married to me :good: I am not married to Fred :good: Fred is not maried to me. :good: Does that help? :) |
Silly mistakes! get married:banghead:
My book talks about "to marry" (he married my cousin) and about "to get married to": It doesn't say anything about "to be married to", that's why I thought "to be married" wasn't followed by "to". Thanks. :) PD: it was a reported question: he asked me if I was married to J. So I guess "was" is correct here. :) |

PS "To marry" is slightly ambiguous, although usually the context resolves it. "He married my cousin" could mean "He got married to my cousin" or "He officiated at my cousin's wedding".

@Pjt: Thank you for clarifying... I had never thought about that ambiguity. :) |
