To take something as a compliment
 
hi, ¿comó se dice i don't know whether i should take that as a compliment or not? este es mi intento: no sé si lo tomaré como un cumplido o no. si hay es una manera más natural decirlo, dime, por favor.

Works, but it's more common to use the indefinite article.
