Se quedó para vestir santos
 
significa que no se casó, implica que no encontró a nadie para casarse, bien sea por su físico o su caracter. IN ENGLISH?

I don't think there is an equivalent expression. Remain single would be a good, if less colourful, translation. :hmm:

Old maid is what comes to mind....

Usually....
-solterona = old maid

Both.....

- se quedó pa' vestir santos

Old maid makes me think of Jane Austen novels. In the 18th and 19th centuries you were an old maid and had lost your bloom at twenty something...:eek:
I'm 44 and still in my prime.;)
