Su idea es estupido. - His/Your idea is stupid.

Esto es ambiguo. ¿Cómo se hace esto específicamente "His" o "Your".

la idea de él
la idea de usted

But more often than not, context will disambiguate.

I agree with Rusty. It's mostly by the context that one will know whose idea it is, but if you want to be specific, you have to say "la idea de él/usted". :)

Off topic, but I'd like to point out the "stupid" does not always translate directly as "estúpido". I like to think of it as somewhat of a false cognate.


While there is a lot of overlap in the meaning of the two words, estúpido in Spanish is a much harsher, agressive, and offensive word than stupid in English, in my experience at least.


stupid = tonto
estúpido = retarded

In this case, probably "su idea es absurda" would be better. :)
