Por lo luchado, lo dolido
Hello everyone,
Below is a dedication from the book Cuenta contigo by Patricia RamÃrez Loeffler. "A ti, amor. Por lo luchado, lo dolido, por la esperanza, porque nos lo merecemos, por nosotros. Te amo." Here's my attempt to translate it: To you, love. For what we have fought, for what we have suffered, for hope, because we deserve it, for us. I love you. Is my translation correct? I must admit I'm not sure what "Por lo luchado" means and what "lo" means in "porque nos lo merecemos." Thank you. |
The 'lo' in 'lo luchado' and 'lo dolido' changes the two-word phrase into an abstract noun. Your translation does a good job with the abstract, but it could be more simply stated, like "for all the fighting" and "for all the pains." The author could have had another abstract in mind at the time of writing.
You correctly translated 'lo' to "it" in the other phrase. The 'nos' prior to it isn't necessary. |
Thank you, Rusty!
