Vigilias (tarde)

Que quiere decir "vigilias (tarde)"? I see it on the website for the Catedral of Barcelona in the listing for Masses on Domingo.

Am I correctly translating it as "Saturday evening" Masses?

Thanks.

The first watch, or first vigil, of the night is translated vigilias (tarde). So, it seems that these are First Vigil Masses. The first vigil of the night started at 1800h.

Other than this information, I'm out of my league. Wait to see what someone else can add.

Welcome Dardis. I really can't add much to what Rusty has said. I think that's the gist of it.

Vigilia is the first afternoon pray, like Rusty says.
But it has a wide range
It can be a pray, a group pray, some chants, or a mass, or ...

In catholicism, you must go on Sunday/Festive to mass.
But you can also go saturday afternoon or the previous day, and they are called "misas de vigilia" because they are celebrated "the previous afternoon"
So the "misa de vigila" are the afternoon masses on Saturday or the day previous a festive one.
so you "Saturday evening" Masses is accurate, but it's better also to add "Vigil Mass" to indicate it can also be the previous of a festive

So, how would you describe one of those all night (prayer/church) meetings/services in Spanish? Common with the protestant churches, and referred to as all night vigil.

noche de vigilia or noche de vigilia de oraciĆ³n.
