Wondering
In English we use "I was wondering.." a lot it's a polite way of saying things in an indirect way that you use even with your closest friends for example:
"I was wondering if you could look after my kids on Friday?" "I was wondering if you would like to do something this weekend." A Spanish friend of mine has said that in Spanish you don't use "I was wondering" so much because Spanish is a lot more direct. Is this true? How would you translate this sentence? "I just rang because I'm in town and was wondering if you'd like to get a coffee?" "He llamado porque estoy en el pueblo y me estaba preguntando si te gustaría tomar algo." o " He llamado porque estoy en el pueblo y quería saber si querías tomar algo." o "He llamado para ver si querías tomar algo." |
I hear quisiera a lot. For example: Quisiera saber si ....
|
La versiones literales "me preguntaba" y, aunque menos común, "(me) estaba pregunt(á)ndo(me)" quedan bien como sustituto de "quisiera".
Un saludo. |
"Me gustaría saber si..." is another polite option.
"Me gustaría saber si vas a asistir a la fiesta" "I was wondering if you are comin' to the party." Best regards!!! Saludos!!! |
