More Spanish speakers in the U.S. than in Spain!!!!
For a long time the U.S. was in 5th and 4th place for number of Spanish speakers. Now the U.S. has more Spanish speakers than anyother country in the world after Mexico. So the U.S. has more Spanish speakers than Spain now!
Don't forget that there are a total of 21 Spanish speaking countries in the world which makes it just that more fantastico. Total number of Spanish speakers Mexico 108,396,211 United States 50,000,000 + 7,820,000 students of Spanish (That's over 50 million Spanish speakers in the U.S.! Fantastico! Spain 46,745,807 |
Just a minute - does this mean Spanish as a mother tounge, or does it include people who claim they speak Spanish as a second language? :)
|
Do a search on the Spanish language Wikipedia The free encyclopedia para que veas/so you can see.
There are over 500 Spanish TV stations in the U.S. and just about as many radio stations in Spanish. |
Yep, done that. But your figures are for the population of the country, not Spanish speakers, although there is not much difference.
For Spanish speakers with Spanish as first language, Mexico 99,908,787 Colombia 44,860,590 USA 42,859,894 Spain 41,603,769 I don't think it means much to include Spanish as a second language, because it depends too much on the level at which you decide that it counts. :) |
Seems to me there would be a litttle more enthusiasm about this on a
forum that is suppose to be promoting the learning of Spanish. Qué no?! |
