Por fuertes que fueran los vientos

Someone translated this line as "you didn't change no matter how hard the times were"... Is that accurate? Does that final part "for hard was the winds" mean that in spanish? Hope I am not annoying everyone too much.... An explantion would be appreciated as well.. Thanks.

Y tu no cambiaste por fuertes que fueran los vientos

The ending is an idiomatic expression. These usually can't be translated word for word, so just learn how to use the phrase as it was used.

por fuertes que fueran los vientos = no matter how hard it might have been (no matter how hard the winds blew/were)
