I think you may be confusing 'to stay' in the sense of 'not go away' and the sense of 'go somewhere for a time'. Tres estudiantes se quedaron .... :?::thinking:

Me too = :thinking::thinking:

I thought my sentence used the word in the same way as the example about Rome... ?? And what is the difference between "stay in the sense of 'not go away'" and "in the sense of go somewhere for a time", because I don't think I get the latter.....

Correct. It corresponds to the use of "permanecer" as a synonym of "quedarse".

Son versos que se quedarán en la memoria.

Se quedó un mes en Roma.

Los estudiantes se quedaron después de la clase.

Wait, huh? WHAT is correct? I thought Perikles was telling me that my use of "permanecer" is wrong in my sentence about students staying after school. Hmmm.....
