Stepping Stone

List Members,

I was wondering about the expression "stepping stone". For example:

This new job will just be a stepping stone for something better.

Any ideas ?

un escalón (step -in stairs-)
un paso intermedio (intermediate step/stage; stepping stone)
una escala (stop -in connection flights-, stopover/layover, not a rope ladder)
un peldaño (rung)

Thank you for your answer.

I think that peldaño is the best for me because I already know that word, although for me it meant lost link.

But I can see how it could refer to a stepping stone.

Dean
