Salir a flote significa remontar, recuperarse de una mala situación tanto económica como sentimental.

Penury es una palabra que terminaron de usar en el siglo 19 (por lo menos
en EEUU) Es mejor decir: I solved my problems, paid my debts/ paid my bills and I'm back on my feet./ and I got by with my head above water.
