Busqué en Google Images tanto en inglés como en castellano y me salió lo mismo.

En el cole hicimos algo de marquetería con esta sierra de marquetería:

Y en la tele, cuando hablan de sierra de calar, sale esto:

I can tell you with certainty: the above sierra de marquetería is a fretsaw, and the electrical one is a jigsaw. :)

;)

Reading the DW's post, a jigsaw is a "caladora", and that would be "una sierra de vaivén". Though thinking of the word "vaivén" (va y viene), a handsaw (serrucho) would be "de vaivén", since you must push and bring nearer the saw. :)

Can you think of a kind of saw which isn't 'va y viene' ?- (apart from a circular saw )

Yes, you're right :p. But I thought a handsaw had a clearer image
Isn't a circular saw a sierra de calar? Well, I don't understand about saw, as I said, but the DW says that it is use to cut curves. Does a circular saw cut curves?

Oh Dear Oh Dear. :p A circular saw is wheel with teeth which rotates very fast, and is very dangerous. And it's one very good feature is that it cuts only in an exact straight line.:)
