Is this a mistake?

Nunca habríamos conocido a Michael.

My book says: we would never had met Michael.

I think it should be: we would never have met.

By the way, if I said "we wouldn't ever have met M.", would that be correct?

Thanks. :)

Yes, it is a mistake.

"We wouldn't ever have met" is also correct.

I have a doubt about your question.
Your choices are correct and acceptable.

But could I telling you that I would write it of this way.
Never we have knew Michael before.:)

I hope that you can correcting me.
I'll be grateful with you.:)

Hello! While I get the possible variations indicated here, I don't think the option by the book is wrong at all. (It may be a bit dated, if anything).
You can do a Google search and find many examples of this subjunctive form. For example, If Grace was with us today, we would never had met Max and Sophia. :)

Yes, you're right, but... are they correct?

JPablo May 23, 2010 04:00 AM

I am not an authority on it, but I would think so, (this usage of "had", if not very widespread, is correct.) Maybe Rusty or any other English native speaker can shed some more light here?

irmamar May 23, 2010 04:07 AM

Thank you, Jpablo. :)

Anyway, as I'm sure that "would have" is correct, I prefer use this one. :)
