Sierra de vaivén

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for January 16, 2010

sierra de vaivén (feminine noun (la)) — jigsaw, saber saw, reciprocating saw. Look up sierra de vaivén in the dictionary

Uso la sierra de vaivén para cortar curvas en madera.
I use a jigsaw to cut curves in wood.

Note:
jigsaw = caladora (Mex)

The link doesn't work. :thinking:

How would one pronounce that with the apostrophe?

irmamar January 24, 2010 06:13 AM

Digo yo que será "vaivén" :thinking: (no entiendo de sierras, pero vaivén es una palabra y viavén no es nada). ;)

Ahora que leo "caladora", aquí he oído "sierra de calar", pero no sé muy bien qué es. :D

Oh my! How weird, you're right! My e-mail for the DSW has an apostrophe. Which is strange because my e-mail always handles accents and tildes just fine. Do you get the DSW e-mail? Is yours right?

I don't get e-mails for the DSW, so this explains why I didn't have the pleasure of understanding you. :rolleyes::D

The dictionary says "sierra de vaivén" for jigsaw. Fretsaw means "sierra de calar" and "sierra de marquetería". I'm sure that "sierra de marquetería" is not the same that "sierra de calar".

Well, I don't know anything about saws, but "viavén" means nothing. ;)

Sierra caladora o de marquetería es lo mismo. De vaivén sería eléctrica. Aunque las primeras también pueden ser eléctricas.

Busqué en Google Images tanto en inglés como en castellano y me salió lo mismo.

No me di cuenta, leí lo que esperaba leer.
