Daily Spanish Word

I've been working on some new features for Tomísimo for a while and I released one yesterday. The Daily Spanish Word comes out once a day with a new Spanish word, its translation and a sample sentence. Really simple, but if we learn a new word every day, that's progress. Right now it's aimed more at beginning/intermediate learners, but I'm going to try to throw in a little more advanced words/syntax in the examples so it will also be appropriate for more advanced learners. The example sentence is in Spanish, and is also translated into English, so native Spanish speakers could even benefit from it.

You can check it out over here, and if you have any suggestions, post them here.

Good idea, David.

Might I suggest using a more replete dictionary? Localization seems like it would also be a problem. I had never heard the word bocina before today. It's good to learn other words, to be sure, but if the word is less common, will it be understood by everyone? The words I learned for 'speaker' are altavoz and parlante. The former is more popular on the Internet than the latter.

Which is why this is a good new feature. Bocina for car horn and audiospeaker is common around here. This will enrich our vocabularies

I only know bocina for car horn. I use altavoz for speaker. I wouldn't understand if somebody tells me bocina with this nuance, but DRAE reflects it (entry 7) for Cuba. It's really important to say where these words are said. This one is an example of very regional usage.
Anyway, I don't want to discourage you, David. It's a great idea to have some daily words. I will learn both, the English and the Spanish part of it.

Thanks for the input guys.

You're right about the word bocina, it's extremely common in Mexico, but not everywhere. I will try to be more careful in the future with the use of regional vocabulary; either try to avoid it, or label it as such.

I'm not using any dictionary to generate these daily words, I'm just pulling them out of thin air.

My hope is that it will be a useful addition to this site, and it will help people learn Spanish/English.

RSS Feed for Daily Spanish Word

I just signed up for the RSS feed and it appears the formating is lost completely. If you go to the xml page you can see exactly how it looks on the reader:

I like your idea, David

I think it will be helpful for lots of posters. I would love to see a saying of the day, and a grammar point of the day!

:)

Thanks for the feedback, I will try to get it fixed ASAP.

Edit: I have now fixed this issue.

Thanks for the ideas Marsopa, I've added them to a long list of things I want to add to this site :)
