Interrogative words and accent marks
Okay, I am having the worst time trying to remember where to put accent marks in interrogative words. Is there some one-size-fits-all rule for which vowel gets the accent in these words to make it easier? Am I missing something? Or is it just something that needs to be memorized?
¿Cuál? ¿Cuáles? ¿Cuándo? ¿Cuánto? ¿Cuánta? ¿Cuántos? ¿Cuántas? ¿Cómo? ¿Dónde? ¿Adónde? ¿De dónde? ¿Qué? ¿Para qué? ¿Por qué? ¿Quién? ¿Quiénes? ¿A quiénes? ¿De quién? (That list taken from my exercise book....) Also, I'm looking at the following thread, which is indirectly related. Just in case someone stumbles on THIS thread while searching on the use of interrogative words.... http://forums.tomisimo.org/showthread.php?t=3012 Thanks for any suggestions you can offer! :) |
(Focus on a single word when the interrogative is composed of two words.)
The words that are polysyllabic are stressed on the second-to-last syllable. Don't be confused by quién. It's not polysyllabic. The accent mark is placed over the vowel in the stressed syllable. In monosyllabic words like qué and quién, this is the last vowel. |
That is SUPER helpful. Thanks, Rusty!!
