I think that in English, at least American English, a veranda is a kind of wooded porch (bóveda) that wraps around a big old Victorian house. The kind of porch people would use in the summer to cool...

I suppose you can call that space a veranda (real estate agents may call it that). but most New Yorkers call it a balcony. This, of course, is a matter of semantics.
