Thank you all for the suggestions. I believe the word used was "denegada", as I experienced another declined transaction later at another establishment and was able to read it on the machine.

Word That Describes Declined Credit Card Transaction In Spanish

While traveling, my credit card was declined and the cashier used a word to tell me it was declined that I didn't understand. In Spanish I asked what the word meant and she said that it didn't pass....
