Hmmmmmm
I've heard "pelo" and "cabello" used for
all the hair on your head. I think you can use "un pelo" and "un cabello"......for individual ones.
BUT..............
I've also heard the following......
Pelo - although it means hair, should be used when referring to the hair of an animal, (not fur but hair)
i.e el pelo del perro,
el pelo de gato, etc.
Cabello - for human hair.
