In a sentence that doesn't end on the work, when I say "Que" it does sound like "Queh".
The part that makes it sound like "'Kay" is the rising inflection indicating it's a question. But, ironically, that's also the part that lets her figure out I'm saying "¿Que?" instead. It just is close enough that she usually has to pause for a second before she figures it out.
