Post A sentence bothering me

Hi guys,

I would like to understand exactly the sense of the following sentence, which comes from a 1712 document:
Did that guy spend 8 years in Barcelona, or from the age of 8?
Do you understand what the text says about abandoning house and possessions ?
Do I understand correctly that he spent some time in prison? This idea is a bit weird with respect to the sentence explaining that he did not receive any money from that.

Thank you a lot in advance!
