For a child it will be a little too "strong". It's like calling him "necio". I will use it with adult people. For children "tonterias" will be ok, as others said. I like to use the word "naderias" or "nimiedades" too, but it's something personal. If i have to use the ones we use here all the time, I will have to put some badwords ... :P
