I believe you are correctly using the subject pronoun 'yo', because I think the reworded phrase should be 'my friends and I' in English (colloquial 'me and my friends').
So, you're looking for a possessive determiner that means 'my' and the word that means 'friends (that are male)'. The determiner must agree in gender and number with the word for 'friends', in Spanish.

(By the way, the subject pronoun 'ellos' (meaning 'them' (plural male)) correctly identifies your friends, but the activity isn't looking for just a subject pronoun. I believe it's looking for the equivalent of 'my friends (male)'.)
