The other day I came into some transformation sentences that I used to do in the past, and I knew how to do them but now I have some doubts.
Can anyone have a look at them and correct them if that´s the case?
1. There´s a cigar left in that pocket
that pocket has ...... one cigar left
2. The trousers were too small for him to wear.
the trousers were´t .......... big enough for him to wear
3. I´d prefer this one to that one.
I´d rather............. have this one to that one
In the US we say "I'd rather have this one
than that one."
4. Which one do you want?
Which is ...........the one you want?
5. This one isn´t quite large enough
this one is ..........too short
Or "too small"
6. That man is as greedy as anyone possible could be
NO-one ...............is as greedy as him.
Okay in casual speech, but my high school English teacher would correct it to "as he is".
7. I don´t like Jim as much as Alan does.
Alan ...............like jim more than me.
Ambiguous: this could mean Alan likes Jim more than Alan likes me. Saying "Alan likes Jim more than I do" is not ambiguous.
8. The theater was so full that we were unable to get a seat.
The theater was too full ..............for us to get a seat.
