En inglés, creo que es mejor no decir "Because she went to the store". Sería mejor juntar esta parte a la útima frase. Pero sí está bien decir "Because/since she went to the store, she got the opportunity to enter the contest." Tampoco es recomendable empezar una frase con "but".
En español, creo que está bien decir "Porque se fue a la tienda", aunque todavía es mejor juntar la frase con la "última". Está bien empezar una frase con "pero", aunque todavía suena mejor juntar las dos frases. Es recomendable empezar la frase con "ayer, también, la semana pasada..."
Por ejemplo,
Ayer fue al museo=(s)he went to the museum yesterday/Yesterday, (s)he went to the museum
He went there too/He also went there=Él también fue allí.
