Probably, "to have a very tight control over something or somebody" (let's see what the natives say.) "Férreo" would be "steely", but you use that for a "steely determination" o you can say something like "iron will" (voluntad férrea).

For discipline and control "strict", "strict control" may be better, although it sounds weaker to me in English...

Strict, rigid schedule...
Fierce, determined opposition
Si es un marcaje férreo = a very tight, very close marking (sports...)
