But surely- "pensar" can mean the process of thinking, "pienso, luego existo",
cogito ergo sum, but also
to have an opinion about something, whereas "pensar en" means
to think about something. I see two different mental activities here.
¿en qué piensas? = what are you thinking about?
¿qué piensas? = what do you think = what is your opinion?
