Well, face means 'impudence; boldness' in English too, but you would use it like: to have the face to ask such a rude question.
To me, not being English native speaker, "what a face!" would convey mainly the idea of admiration as in "what a pretty face!" and I believe it would be used more in this way. I guess, in some context, it could be understood as "nerve", but "nerve" or "cheek" would be the most common way to say it in English.
cara = (frescura, descaro) nerve, cheek (BrE colloquial);
¡qué cara (más dura) tienes = you have some nerve!, you’ve got a nerve o cheek!;
se lo llevó por la cara = he just took it quite openly;
entraron en la fiesta por la cara = they gatecrashed the party;
lo dijo con toda la cara del mundo = he said it as cool as you like;
tiene más cara que espalda = he has such a nerve! [literally, 'he has more face than back (back = from shoulders to gluteus maximus)]
cara de cemento = concrete [cement] face = hard face = very intense impudence, boldness.
