Another mistake?

My book says that "marry" is not followed by a preposition, but "get marry" is (to).

However, in a sentence I've read: "if I was married to Johnathan", while I think that the correct sentence would be: "if I was married Johnathan". I guess this is a mistake (mistakes puzzle me ). Would you mind to confirm it?

Thanks.
