Sure can relate - I enjoyed a three-year hiatus of travel with a year of
transcultural exchange in the Caribbean, and on returning home, realized
that many people really could not appreciate what I had thought of as
such rich experience, and I felt alienated (until back in University), and
so kept the conversations short in my home town. (Southern New Hampshire)
Nobody had been further away than Boston in the meantime, and really couldn't have cared less about faraway places.
Of course, by now they've probably been to CancĂșn and will be taking Spanish courses for the next time...
