"Las mujeres en Medio Oriente
se tapan
el rostro" is roughly like saying "The faces of [...] are covered." (More passive...)
"Las mujeres en Medio Oriente tapan
su rostro. = Las mujeres en Medio Oriente tapan
sus rostros" is roughly like saying "[...] cover their faces."
