Breaking the bank

3 machine translations for:

I was breaking the bank when they threw me out of the casino.

1. Estaba rompiendo el Banco cuando me tiraron fuera del casino.

2. Yo era romper el banco cuando me tiraron fuera del casino.

3. Rompía el banco cuando me lanzaron del casino.

Mi mejor conjetura sería:
Rompía el banco cuando me tiraron fuera del casino.

2. La utilización ser me (era) parece incorrecta.

Gracias, Bob Ritter

1. and 3. are correct, but not in that context.

2. is totally incorrect.

You can use "destrozar" (in a metaphorical way) and "quebrar", but not "partir". A idiom in Spanish could: dejar sin blanca . The best verbs are "arruinar" and "arrasar".

"Lanzar fuera" and "tirar fuera" are also correct, but it's more common "echar fuera" or simply "echar de + place" with people. "Lanzar" denotes much violence and "tirar" seems as if the person were an object.

I would say: Estaba arruinando a la banca cuando me echaron del casino.

A pleasure.

Gracias, Julvenzor. El verbo echar es muy interesante y útil. Lo podría estudiar durante un mes y todavía no saber todo sobre él. Lo mismo con el verbo partir.
Realmente aprecio su ayuda.

Estaba quebrando la banca cuando me echaron del casino.

"quebrar la banca" (related to casinos) is a fixed expression: "Tuvo tanta suerte en el casino que estuvo a punto de quebrar la banca"

"hacer (más) pobre" (related to used up all one's money): "Comer una vez en un restaurante no nos va a hacer más pobres" (Going out to dinner just once will hardly break the bank)
