Paremias

Las paremias are something akin to our modismos, dichos y refranes or not? It's a new term for me.

As I understand, the word "paremia" is synonymous of "refrán", "dicho" and "proverbio", which are used to express or to extract some sort of wisdom from them.

But a "modismo" is something different, rather an idiom, a "frase hecha", with no teaching or moral implied in them.

You won't see "paremia" often; synonyms will be much more commonly found.
