Saltar la primicia
I think it means to break the news. I don't believe it is commonly used. Am I wrong about this?

I think a few people say "saltar la noticia" instead of "soltar la noticia", which is the expression I know, and which makes more sense to me.
It means to give out the news. It is frequently used, mostly in the media, to talk about a third person who suddenly tells something nobody else knew, or preferred to keep quiet. We were having breakfast and out of the blue he/she told me he/she is getting married. During the interview, the famous football player suddenly told he's being hired by a new club. Two entertainment reporters were the ones who gave off the news about the divorce of this famous couple of actors.
