An adjective like "southern" which has directional, locational meaning normally does come next to the noun as Rusty explained.
However... when you use "southern" to encompass a class of things, it can be OK to use as the first adjective. For example: Southern fried chicken Southern grilled chicken Those examples describe two other categories of food. The reason this works and sounds natural is that the next adjective and noun can be thought of as a compound word. Basically the terms "fried chicken" and "grilled chicken" are each a concept that is already known. ... I had some other examples here and then came back and deleted what I wrote. The longer I thought about it, the more exceptions I could think of. Adjective order in English is very nuanced, because of how adjectives work together in a noun clause. Way too much to discuss in one post. Última edición por Mozzo fecha: December 23, 2013 a las 06:02 PM |
