Polite letter writing
Are my sentences polite and do they befit the style that should be adopted by a student when he writes to a teacher?
Dear Prof L, Thank you for nominating me leader of a mentor group. I appreciate it. But the problem I have is, I do not know those in my group very well, so I hope to hand over/shift the responsibility of so difficult a task to others, who would definitely be more competent than I am. I apologise for causing all the trouble. Thank you. Yours sincerely, Paul Auster |

Your sentences are indeed polite. Using 'suit' would be better than 'befit'.
Surrender the responsibility Hand over the responsibility Turn over the responsibility Abdicate the responsibility There should not be a comma after 'others'. |
