Addressing a professor
Hello all,
I was wondering what the proper method of addressing a former professor would be. I am planning on writing a formal thank you letter to my Spanish professor, and I need some advice on how to address her to start the letter. Would Señora suffice? Should I use her entire name? What is the proper method? Thank you |

Time ago, Señora was used if the woman was married, and señorita otherwise.
Now it's more complicate, but saying señora you go well for sure. Saying señorita it's not so bad if you both are on good terms, she will feel younger and happy, but it's a formal one you must say Señora. suposse it's Miss Sue Wormwood goes from normal to casual. I don't really know how close Muy estimada señorita/señora Wormwood. Apreciada Señora Wormwood <-- best one, middle one, Querida Señora Wormwood Querida Sue Hola Sue If it's a former profesor, and you are on good terms, you can say Querida/Apreciada Señora Wormwood, le escribo estas letras para agradecerleo sinceramente el esfuerzo y paciencia que dedicó para que yo aprendiese castellano correctamente. ..... Saludos

If you have enough friendship ( I mean "confianza") with her and you know her first name, you can start like this (we suppose her first name is "MarÃa"):
Estimada MarÃa: If you think that this is not enough formal, you can use her last name, using Sra. to avoid certain problems (let's suppose her last name is López): Estimada Sra. López: If you wouldn't know her at all, you sould start like this: Sra. López: But I think the last one is not a good thing for a teacher that you know a bit well. I hope it'll be helpful. |

Sugerencia,
