Question about subjunctive mood in spanish
Hello,
I was wondering why in this case "Si fuera más joven, nos entendería mejor", do we use subjunctive? I thoght that subjunctive never follows the "si (if)" clause. Is it because in this case it is something that is uncertain and unlikely to happen, is it the same principle as "Si hubiera sabido... lo habría hecho" ? And if "si" is something certain, it uses only indicative.. like "Si vas al cine hoy, iré contigo", "Si no me respetas, te castigo". ? Last edited by Caramelita; May 02, 2013 at 06:31 AM. |

Yes, "if" introduces a "conditional" clause that can be indicative or subjunctive.
If you learn the subjunctive, you will master the Spanish language. Si aprendes el subjuntivo, dominarás el idioma español. If you would [were to] learn the subjunctive, you would master the Spanish language. Si aprendieras el subjuntivio, dominarías el idioma español. (Don't trust my English, as I am a native Spanish... but my Spanish has some reliability...)
