Atracón/tragón
Describing how I ate too much at a meal I said Me dí un atracón but my friend said it should be .. .. .. tragón. Why is that, since I thought tragón has more to do with drinking than eating?

Te diste un atracón (that specific time) quizá porque eres un tragón (all the time)
atracón = the act of gorging tragón = the person who eats too much all the time In my country we prefer "darse una panzada" to "darse un atracón", and we have slang terms for tragón: morfón or manyulón.

Your sentence with "darse un atracón" is correct in colloquial speech.
"Tragar" means to swallow, but in slang it means to eat much. "Tragón" is the adjective for the person who eats a lot. I have never heard it used for drinking (that would be simply "borracho" for me). - Eres un tragón, ya te acabaste las galletas. You're such a glutton, you ate up all the cookies. - Ya no quiero ser tan tragona, estoy engordando. I don't want to be a glutton anymore, I'm putting up weight. - Me duele la panza por estar de tragón. My belly hurts for being so greedy.

A uno que bebe tanta cerveza, vino y licores dicen que es bueno "pa'l trago". No lo llaman "tragón" , más bien que "le gusta el trago". Quote:
Ahora puede ser que esté equivocado: son 50 añs que no voy a Chile

Gracias por la aclaración, Pino.
En México, el verbo se usa exclusivamente para comer, aunque sí decimos "un trago" para una porción de líquido que se bebe.
