EDIT | You'll never hear the difference in speech at a normal speed. It's, only when somebody slows down to hesitate etc that you'll hear: «… perchayyyyy… allora perché ieri mi hai detto di no, non ti ricordi?!» Whereas saying caffayyyy would just be wrong, that's always caffeh.

caffeh= 'e' chiusa = caffè
