Pero
salir de las llamas y caer en las brasas salir de las llamas = to leave/exit/go out of the fire, si caer en las brasa = to fall in the coals/fire. Makes sense if brasas=coals

@Chileno... yes I double checked DRAE, brasa/ascua... Brasa = hot coal Ascua = ember, small piece of burning wood or coal... Pues eso... :-) ¡Feliz 2014 para toda/-os!

All said if brasas is translated as "coals" aren't we now: salir de las llamas = leaving/jumping out of the flames or fire caer en las brasa = falling into the coals salir de las llamas y caer en las brasas I can't find a frying pan anywhere.

Don't try to find a frying pan. That's found in the equivalent English idiomatic expression.
Idiomatic expressions can vary greatly between languages. We have an extensive Idioms section. There you'll see that very few expressions have a one-to-one match as far as words go. |
